"Glory and Praise forever!"
Today is the feast in which we are called to contemplate the central mystery of our faith, that God is a Trinity of Persons, equal in all things, yet so perfectly united that they are one God. It is a mystery.
The most that we can hope for when we contemplate the mysteries of faith is a momentary illumination, a second of awareness that passes as quickly as it comes. In the end, all that is left for us to say when we come face to face with the Trinity in prayer is, “Wow!” God is a mystery, and before that mystery all we can do is, like Moses in the first reading, to bow down and worship.
And yet, as awesome and unknowable as this mystery of our God is, we are invited to participate in this mystery, but not just in an academic way, as if God has set up a math equation that we are to spend our lives figuring out. We are called to share in the very life of God.
God the Father, in eternity, is pouring his life and love, power and divinity, majesty and glory, all that he is, out to his eternal Son. The Son of God, in eternity, is receiving the gift of God the Father’s life and love, power and divinity, majesty and glory, and the Son is giving back again all that he is to the Father. The gift that is given and received between Father and Son is so perfect that it becomes its own living force, who is the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit, from the Father and the Son, has been given to us, last week’s great celebration of Pentecost. The very life and love, power and divinity, majesty and glory of God lives in us, and we are reconciled and made one with our God.
In what ways can we be more aware of the presence of the Trinity in our lives this week?
